At the Farnborough International Airshow, innovation isn’t confined to the skies. This year, we were thrilled to present our market-leading digital twin technology to the events industry, using Farnborough International as the perfect example of just how powerful the tool can be.

What is Digital Twin Technology?
In simple terms, a digital twin is a virtual replica of a physical space or object. To illustrate this to visitors at the Farnborough International Airshow, Iventis created a digital twin of the Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre (ECC). This virtual model allows event organisers to visualise any event held at the venue in an immersive, virtual environment. This isn’t just a static model; it’s an interactive tool that can emulate 2D plans instantaneously, providing a live visualisation that unlocks endless potential for venues and event organisers alike.
The Power of Visualisation
Sarah explained that the Farnborough International ECC is a unique and complex venue, making it challenging for organisers to fully grasp how their event will look and function within the space. The digital twin solves this problem by providing a detailed, 3D model that can be explored and manipulated, creating an accurate, to-scale preview of how an event can look – transforming how events professionals can plan workflows, attendee movement, and overall event logistics.
Developed with Versatility in Mind
The digital twin from Iventis offers a versatile solution; not only for event organisers, it also serves as a powerful sales and marketing tool. Farnborough International ECC, like many venues, is looking to diversify its offerings and attract a wider range of events. The digital twin allows them to showcase the venue’s capabilities to potential clients in an engaging and innovative way.
Operationally, the digital twin is equally valuable. It is ideal for planning, guest experience optimisation, improving flow, and even make real-time adjustments to event layouts. This level of detail can enhance the efficiency of event execution, leading to smoother operations and happier attendees.
The Farnborough International Airshow and Beyond
Showcasing our digital twin technology at the Farnborough International Airshow was an exciting opportunity for Iventis. The scale of the event provided the perfect backdrop for demonstrating the technology’s capabilities.
Only just finished with this year’s airshow, the team at Farnborough International are already planning for the British Motor Show. Unlike the trade-focused airshow, the British Motor Show is a consumer event. However, it is still a major event, drawing around 70,000 visitors. The versatility of the digital twin will help the team adapt to the different requirements of this event, demonstrating its broad applicability across various types of shows and venue types.
Continuous Innovation at Iventis
Iventis is committed to continuous innovation; not only in the Iventis Planner, our core operational planning technology, but also through the capabilities of our digital twin. As this technology evolves, it promises to unlock even more potential for visualising, simulating, and showcasing events and spaces, making it an indispensable tool for event organisers and venues worldwide.
